FC St. Pauli face a formal case before the DFB's Control Committee. The German Football Association is investigating the Hamburg club after its fans chanted 'Nazi pigs' at Rot-Weiss Essen supporters during a 0:2 German Cup exit.
Rot-Weiss Essen filed a complaint with the DFB after the match, which took place two weeks ago. The Control Committee has now asked FC St. Pauli for a formal statement on the chants heard during the cup tie.
Press spokesperson Patrick Gensing said the club has no objection to the process. "Wir haben kein Problem damit, dass die Vorfälle rund um das Spiel vom DFB-Kontrollausschuss aufgeklärt werden," Gensing said. The DFB is separately examining a sexist insult aimed at an FC St. Pauli employee, for which Rot-Weiss Essen publicly apologized and condemned the incident on its social media channels.
