Blitzstart for Iceland's Kante!

FC St. Pauli kick off the new season with a bang. Trainer Marcel Rapp has appointed new captain David Nemeth and signed Icelandic midfielder Gísli Thórdarson on loan with a buy option from Polish top-flight club Lech Posen.

The 21-year-old midfielder is 1.91 meters tall and could make a significant contribution. Rapp warns, however, of the opponent Greuther Fürth, who narrowly avoided relegation last season and only secured their spot in the relegation playoffs against RW Essen.

Warns of relegation-threatened opponent

Rapp: „Greuther Fürth has achieved very good results and performances in the second half of the season. They're now carrying this momentum into the test matches. The way they play shows that they've made significant progress. So, we can expect a confident opponent who has nothing to lose.“

What's next?

FC St. Pauli wants to start the season with a win. Rapp: „We're well-prepared. We're in good shape and want to get three points with all our might.“

In the new season, FC St. Pauli is ranked 18th in the Bundesliga with 26 points from 34 games. The Kiecker lost their last five games. Most recently, FC St. Pauli lost 1:3 to VfL Wolfsburg (2026-05-16).

Current numbers
